Schwarzenegger Vetoes Smoking Ban

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger vetoed another bill that would have banned smoking in California’s state parks and beaches.
One tobacco company, Commonwealth Brands, had publicly opposed the ban, arguing it would infringe on smokers’ rights.
“I’m sorry the governor did not agree with this widely supported effort to increase public awareness about the environmental threats carelessly tossed cigarettes are doing to our marine life and to the great outdoors,” Oropeza said in a statement.
Schwarzenegger told lawmakers the best way to discourage people from leaving cigarette butts at beaches and parks is to increase fines and penalties.

  1. It’s about time someone stopped taking away the rights of the communities to decide for themselves what should or shouldn’t be allowed. I’m sick of the government masquerading as a nanny telling us what to do. There are big problems, real problems, in this state to legislate. They need to WORK instead of the “feel good” crap they waste time on. Take away their perks. People are unemployed, homeless and hungry…. except for the elected good for nothings.

  2. Tobacco is a legal product.
